Tally is running slowly
Updated 30 September 2026
Everything you see is being sent over your internet connection, so slowness is much more often the line than the server. These checks separate the two in a couple of minutes.
Measure the connection, do not guess
- Run a speed test on the computer you are actually working on.
- Below about 4 Mbps download, the session will feel sluggish however fast the server is.
- Ping above roughly 100 ms is felt as lag when typing — the keystroke has to travel there and back.
- Test again on mobile data. If mobile data is noticeably better, it is your office line, not us.
Things that help immediately
- Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi if you can. It is the single biggest difference in most offices.
- Turn off any VPN. It sends your session the long way round.
- Close other large downloads or video calls on the same connection.
If several people are in the same company file
Standard multi-user TallyPrime shares company data as files, so several people saving vouchers at once will queue behind each other. That is how Tally works rather than a fault, and it is worth telling us if it is your daily pattern — there are ways to improve it.
If none of that explains it
Message us with the speed-test result and roughly when it is worst. We can see the server’s load at that time and say honestly whether the problem is at our end.
Still stuck? Message us with your username and what you are seeing — the exact wording of any error helps most.
