FAQ

Tally on Cloud — questions and answers

Direct answers about running Tally on the cloud with Airmax: how access works, which devices are supported, how data is secured and backed up, what a Tally licence has to do with it, what it costs, and what the limitations are. Where the honest answer is a caveat rather than a benefit, it is written as one.

What is Tally on Cloud and how does it work?
Tally on Cloud means your Tally ERP or TallyPrime software runs on a remote cloud server instead of a computer in your office. Airmax Tally Cloud installs your Tally on a managed server, and you open it over a Remote Desktop (RDP) connection secured with a one-time password. Your keyboard and mouse input travels to the server and the screen comes back, so the software and the company data both stay on the server — nothing is stored on the device you are working from.
Can I use Tally on a Mac?
Yes. Tally itself is a Windows application, but because it runs on our cloud server you reach it from a Mac using a Remote Desktop client — no Boot Camp, no Parallels and no virtual machine on your own Mac. The same approach works from Windows, Linux, Android and iOS.
Can Tally be accessed from a mobile device?
Yes. Android and iOS both have Remote Desktop clients, and the login process is the same as on a laptop. Tally was designed as a desktop application, so a tablet or a larger screen is more comfortable for data entry, while a phone works well for checking reports and ledgers on the move.
Can multiple users work on the same Tally data at the same time?
Yes. Multi-user access is included, and users in different offices, branches or homes sign in to the same live company data at the same time. Because everyone is working on one copy on the server, there is no export, import or end-of-day merge between locations.
Can several branches use the same Tally company data?
Yes. Branch offices connect to the same server and the same company, so a sale entered at one branch is visible to head office immediately. This is the usual reason multi-location businesses move Tally to the cloud.
Is Tally on Cloud secure?
Airmax Tally Cloud runs in Tier 3 data centres with multi-layer firewall protection, SSL-encrypted connections and OTP verification on every login, so a stolen password on its own is not enough to open a session. Backups are taken automatically every day. Security details are explained in full on the Tally Cloud security page.
Is my Tally data backed up, and can I keep a copy myself?
Yes to both. Automated backups run daily on the server, and a control panel lets you schedule your own copy to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Amazon S3. You can also download a backup to your own PC whenever you want, so you are never dependent on a single copy.
How do I move my existing Tally data to the cloud?
Migration is included at no extra cost. You send us a backup of your current Tally company data, we restore it onto your cloud server along with your Tally installation, and you check the balances before switching over. Most of the work happens on our side; the change you notice is that you now open Tally through a Remote Desktop shortcut instead of a local icon.
Do I need my own Tally licence?
Yes. Airmax Tally Cloud is hosting for Tally, not a Tally licence — the service runs your own copy of Tally ERP or TallyPrime on our servers. If you are unsure how your current licence applies to a hosted setup, talk to our team before you migrate.
Does Tally on Cloud support TDL customisation?
Yes. The cloud servers run a standard Tally installation, so TDL files and customised modules load exactly as they do on a local machine. Airmax is a Tally Certified Solution Partner and can help set up custom TDL on your cloud server.
Can I create more than one company in a single Tally user account?
Yes. A single Tally user on the cloud can hold multiple companies, and all of them open from the same login on the server.
What internet speed do I need?
An ordinary stable broadband or 4G connection is enough. A Remote Desktop session only carries screen updates and keystrokes, not the company data file itself, so bandwidth use stays low. Connection stability matters more than raw speed — a steady 2 Mbps link performs better than a faster one that keeps dropping.
What happens if my internet connection drops?
Your session closes, but nothing is lost on your side: Tally and your data live on the server, not on your device. When the connection returns you sign in again and carry on. Because the data never sat on the local machine, a failed laptop or a power cut at your desk does not put the accounts at risk.
Can I print invoices from a cloud Tally session to my local printer?
Yes. Cloud printing maps a printer at your own location into the remote session, so invoices and reports print on the printer next to you rather than in the data centre. Printers at branch offices can be configured the same way.
How much does Tally on Cloud cost?
There are two plans: Office Cloud at ₹299 per month, billed annually at ₹3,588 a year, and Tally Cloud at ₹833 per month, billed annually at ₹10,000 a year. Both include setup, migration, multi-user access, automated daily backups, multi-layer security and support. Multi-year plans carry a discount of up to 20%.
What is included in a Tally Cloud plan?
Every plan includes the cloud server and Tally installation, multi-user access from any location, OTP-protected logins, multi-layer firewall and SSL-encrypted connections, automated daily backups with your choice of cloud backup destination, cloud printing, TDL customisation support, free setup and free migration of your existing data, and support. The Tally licence itself is yours and is not part of the plan.
What are the limitations of running Tally on the cloud?
Three are worth knowing before you move. You need a working internet connection to reach the server, so an office with no connectivity cannot work offline. The Tally licence is not included — you bring your own. And peripherals such as printers or barcode scanners need to be mapped into the remote session once during setup rather than simply being plugged in. For most businesses these are one-time setup items; if any of them is a blocker for you, say so before you sign up.
How do I get support?
